Common questions

Why doesn't Passage show my current country immediately?

GPS auto-detect uses Apple's Significant Location Changes API, which is designed for battery efficiency. It fires when your phone detects meaningful location changes — usually within a few kilometers of movement or once every few minutes. You can force a one-time capture via Profile → Debug → Capture Location Now.

Photo scan didn't find some trips

Passage only reads photos with location metadata (EXIF GPS tags). Photos taken on cameras that don't record location, or photos where location was stripped (e.g. some messaging apps), cannot be attributed to a country. Also: if GPS has already recorded evidence for that country in that time window, photo-scan trips for the same period are suppressed — GPS wins.

How do I edit a trip?

Tap the trip in the Trips tab to open the detail sheet. From there you can edit dates, country, cities, or archive it.

How do I add a Schengen or custom stay rule?

Go to Profile → Stay Rules → Add Rule. You can use a preset (Schengen 90/180) or define a custom rule with countries, rolling window, and maximum stay days.

Where are my trips stored?

Locally on your device only. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I export my data?

Profile → Export. You get a JSON file you can share via AirDrop, email, or save to Files. That's also how you back up before switching devices.

I switched phones. How do I bring my trips over?

Export from your old device (Profile → Export), transfer the JSON to your new device, then use Profile → Import from File.

How do I report a bug?

If you're on TestFlight, use Send Beta Feedback from the TestFlight app — that includes a screenshot and diagnostic info. Otherwise email support@usepassage.app with:

Battery use

Passage uses Apple's low-power Significant Location Changes and Visit monitoring APIs, not continuous GPS. In our testing on iPhone 14 Pro Max, battery impact is under 1% per day. If you see higher usage, please report it.
