Common questions
Why doesn't Passage show my current country immediately?
GPS auto-detect uses Apple's low-power Significant Location Changes and Visit monitoring. Passage waits for at least six hours of observed presence in a country before creating a trip for Review. Several rapid location updates do not bypass that minimum, and updates do not need to come from the same city. iOS controls when background observations arrive, so a current-country update can appear before a trip candidate does.
Photo scan didn't find some trips
Passage only reads photos with location metadata (EXIF GPS tags). Photos taken on cameras that don't record location, or photos where location was stripped (e.g. some messaging apps), cannot be attributed to a country. Also: if GPS has already recorded evidence for that country in that time window, photo-scan trips for the same period are suppressed — GPS wins.
How do I edit a trip?
Tap the trip in the Trips tab to open the detail sheet. From there you can edit dates, country, cities, or archive it.
How do I add a Schengen or custom stay rule?
Open the Rules tab and tap Add a Stay Rule. You can use a preset (Schengen 90/180) or define a custom rule with countries, rolling window, and maximum stay days.
Where are my trips stored?
Locally on your device only. See the privacy policy for details.
How do I export my data?
Go to You → Data & Backup → Export Backup. You get a JSON file you can share via AirDrop, email, or save to Files. That's also how you back up before switching devices.
I switched phones. How do I bring my trips over?
Export from your old device (You → Data & Backup → Export Backup), transfer the JSON to your new device, then use You → Data & Backup → Import from File.
How do I report a bug?
If you're on TestFlight, use Send Beta Feedback from the TestFlight app — that includes a screenshot and diagnostic info. Otherwise email support@usepassage.app with:
- What you did
- What happened
- What you expected
- Your iOS version and Passage build number (You → About)
Battery use
Passage uses Apple's low-power Significant Location Changes and Visit monitoring APIs, not continuous GPS. In our testing on iPhone 14 Pro Max, battery impact is under 1% per day. If you see higher usage, please report it.
